a fanzine dedicated to the myth and magic of celestial fantasy and a love written in the stars
Frequently Asked Questions
What is this zine about?
The myth and magic of celestial fantasy and a love written in the stars. Our stories and art will explore themes of celestial and astrological fantasy, myth, destiny, and legends. Examples include fairytales about the galaxy (star royalty, sun and moon spirits, how the astrological signs were born, etc.), the ideas of fate and destiny based in the stars (such as reincarnation, soulmates, and similar themes), character exploration regarding their star signs (introspective pieces, works regarding compatibility, how a sign impacts someone's personality, and so on), and pieces that deal with the galaxies, stars, and celestials in a fantastic/fantasy way. What is the zine rating?
PG-13, or the equivalent of the Teen rating on AO3. This rating, as it is in movies, contains slightly more intense material than a PG-rated story, but is not as intense as an R-rated story. Violence may be described in detail some readers may find disturbing. References to mature themes may appear, but not be described in detail. Actual sex may be implied to happen, although sex scenes are usually still "fade to black." The content would not be inappropriate in modern young adult fiction. Is this zine for charity or profit?
This is intended to be a split-profit zine, meaning half of the profits will go to charity and half will go to the contributors, provided the zine makes profits of at least $1000. If it makes profits less than $1000, the entire amount goes to charity! Will you announce the amount donated to charity?

Yes!How will contributors be notified about progress check-ins?
Check-ins will take place on the Discord server, but as we know not everyone checks Discord frequently, so e-mail check-ins will be sent to those who haven’t/aren’t able to check-in on Discord for one reason or another. What are the check-in requirements/expectations?Please see our schedule page for the most up to date schedule announcements. Below is our preliminary schedule:First Check-in (September 20th): Have the estimated word count and general idea of what your piece will entail, but actual progress is not necessary at this stage. Ideally: you should be able to provide a short blurb about your concept.Second Check-in (October 20th): Some degree of work, whether that be a sketch, an outline, a few paragraphs, etc. Ideally: 20-30% of your overall work.Third Check-in (November 20th): Ideally: 60% line art finished, and perhaps flat colors applied. First draft written or coming to the half-way point in your story.Soft Deadline (December 20th): Pieces should be mostly finished, if not complete, only needing some finishing touches like betaing or touching up the background. This is also the ideal last date to drop out, should you need to, or to make a major change to your work so pinch-hitters have ample time to step in.Hard Deadline (January 20th): All pieces are due, except for those granted extensions (extensions are due January 25th).Final Extension Requests Due (February 5th)How will the completed pieces be collected?
We will have a Google Form available for contributors to upload all completed pieces. What if I need an extension?
Please let us know, and we’ll do our best to work with you to accommodate this. Do keep in mind, however, there is only so long we can allow for extensions without delaying the entire zine. What if I need to drop out of the zine?
We understand life comes first. We have a schedule in place to gather pinch-hitters if they are required, though we ask that if you do need to drop out, please do so before the final check-in, if possible. Please review our schedule and be aware that the final work period for contributions overlaps the winter holidays, so please plan accordingly. What do contributors get?
All contributors will receive our highest-level bundle package, which includes the physical zine. Can contributors post their own (unofficial) previews? Or are the official previews the only ones allowed to be shown?
Official previews will be posted closer to (and during) the pre-order period. However, you are allowed to post your own preview, providing it doesn’t show more than 20-30% of the piece. For anyone who streams, you can work on your piece while live, provided you do not complete the piece on stream. The full, completed piece is not allowed to be posted or published until after the zine has fulfilled and distributed ALL orders and any overstock.

Contributor Guidelines
General
This is a Yuri on Ice fanzine dedicated to the myth and magic of celestial fantasy and love written in the stars.
This zine welcomes all Yuri On Ice characters, no matter the age, but all ships must be between consenting adults, meaning if you’re shipping someone who’s a minor (IE: Yurio) you must age him up for your piece.
This zine is rated PG-13.
Our final deadline for all work is February 10, 2022.
All pieces must be original creations for the zine and not previously created works.
For Writers
Please submit an unpublished story with a maximum word count of 3,500 words (with the leeway limit of 100 words max) in a Google Document. At the top of your piece, state the total word count and list tags like you would when publishing on AO3 (like: AU type, relationships, warnings, fluff/romance).
You do not have to have a formally beta’d work but it is strongly encouraged. If you’re completely happy with your piece when you send it in, that’s all we ask. After the deadline, there will be a copy editing phase in which your work may be corrected for spelling, grammar, and punctuation only.
Content Rules for Writers
You can use some rated R language, but excessive swearing will not be accepted.
You can explore sensitive themes but graphic or explicit depictions of violence or sexual content are not allowed (see PG-13 Guidelines in General section above), and we will not accept any piece that contains permanent major character death or non-con elements.
Absolutely no slurs or hate speech of any kind will be tolerated, it’s fine if you want to have an antagonist who’s homophobic; it’s expected that some pieces may feature this in fact, but please don’t use any slurs to relay it. <3
On that, the organizers do not consider “Queer” to be a slur; we consider it reclaimed! So please feel perfectly comfortable using it if you so choose, but we do ask that you not use it as an insult or in a slur-context, as again, “queer” is meant to be a positive word in this space!
For Artists
Art does not have to be full color, but it is encouraged!
Comics are allowed! But there will be limited availability for multi-page spreads to keep our page count decent, so please let us know ASAP if you’re interested in doing a multi-page comic or spread!
Artists will submit both a CMYK and RGB version of your piece. The CMYK file can be a tiff, psd, pdf, or jpg. The RGB should be a png or jpg. Please ensure that your CMYK version is formatted to 300dpi, and that both measure to to the following:
-Full Canvas size for single page: 5.75” x 8.75” (to account for bleed and spine)
--Art space: 5.5” x 8.5”
-Full Canvas size for double page spread: 11.25" x 8.75"
--Art space: 11" x 8.5"
If you are doing a double spread or comic, please submit both the whole piece and the separate pages as separate files (your separate pages must have the page number included at the end of the file title). Do not leave the 0.25” of canvas space blank (the background must reach the edges of the canvas space), just ensure your character art isn’t spilling into the bleed and spine zone .
For Cosplayers
Follow the above for the artists and list your photographer’s credit following your own: Credit - Photographer Credit - SFW -Title of piece.
Content Rules for Artists and Cosplayers
You can explore sensitive themes but graphic or explicit depictions of violence or sexual content are not allowed (see PG-13 Guidelines in General section above), and we will not accept any piece that contains major character death or non-con elements.
For All Contributors
Please DO NOT post your work elsewhere until after shipping and fulfillment has completed. All contributors will be allowed to post their pieces shortly after that.
Mod Team
Makkareads - Co-Organizer, Project-Management/Administration & Finance/Shipping
tumblr/makkareads
Makkareads is a seeker of happiness, lover of all furry souls, and superhero in the eyes of her cats. She spends her days doing corporate writing and advising, and generally keeping people’s ducks in rows. The rest of her time is spent reading, writing, getting lost, believing in magic, and daydreaming with abandon. This is her fourth zine as a mod. She’ll be in charge of general production duties, project management, organization, finance, & shipping.
Zenphoenixa - Co-Organizer & Graphics/Marketing
tumblr/zen-draws
twitter/artannabel
Zenphoenixa is a self-taught artist whose free time is currently dedicated to drawing and graphic modding for the YOI fandom. She's pretty late to the party, but is trying to make up for it by entertaining you all with crack comics and goose crossovers.
During the day, Zen is a (mostly) diligent Australian public servant, sassy wife, and doting mother of one. When she's not swooning over gay ice skaters, she can be found at her beloved piano, trawling through Simpson quote groups on Facebook, and learning the art of pet chicken massage. This is her sixth zine, and third one as a mod.
Mystic Emerald - Social Media
tumblr/mysticemerald2
twitter/mysticemerald2
insta/mysticemeraldart
Mystic is your local everyday fandom nerd, artist, and technology geek. In her free time, she can often be found drawing artwork for Sk8, Yuri on Ice and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. This will be her sixteenth zine overall and her fifth as a moderator. She is super excited to be apart of this project and looks forward to working alongside everyone!
Bullsfish - Book Layout & Art Management
tumblr/bullsfish
twitter/bullsfish
AO3/bullsfish
Bullsfish is a Finnish artist and the occasional writer. During the day she is working on finishing her architecture masters. She first started actively participating in fandom after getting into Yoi and has now participated in over 15 zines in different fandoms. This is the third zine she is a mod in and making the zine layout for.
Azraelyz - General Mod
twitter/azraelyz
AO3/azraelyz
When she grows up, she wants to become the first panda writer and she's constantly fidgeting with so many ideas that her brain (and fingers) can't keep up. She's a hopeless binge-reader, nature lover and music addict. She's loved Yuri on Ice fiercely from the first minute of History Maker and her addiction grows every day. You can sometimes catch her memeing when no one's looking. This is her third zine as a contributor and mod.
Freyja - Assistant and Beta Mod
tumblr/ineedmorecoke
twitter/freyja_salt
AO3/Empress_Nocturne
Freyja is a hardworking pre-med/creative writing university student with an addiction to gacha games and bubble tea. She loves reading and writing in equal amounts. In her free time (when not reading or writing), you can catch her playing Identity V and Genshin Impact. She has written for 10+ zines and moderated/is moderating 8+, primarily as a beta mod, head mod, or intern mod.
Special Thanks
Asagi - Founder
tumblr/asagi-s-garden
A03/asagistilinski
Asagi is a professional writer and a casual disaster bi who enjoys fawning over werewolves and loudly screaming about female superheroes. She was dragged into Yuri on Ice when it first started airing and now there’s no chance you’ll ever get her to leave.
